Terms of Service

Welcome to Snailmail, a slow little letter service for messages that may wander, dawdle, disappear, or arrive exactly when they feel like it. These Terms explain the rules for using Snailmail.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Snailmail. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should use Snailmail with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

2. Accounts

You are responsible for the email address used with your account and for anything that happens through your account.

Usernames are public. We may rename, reclaim, restrict, or remove usernames that impersonate others, mislead people, use reserved words, violate these Terms, or interfere with the service.

3. Public Mailboxes

Public mailbox pages let people send private letters without creating an account. They are mailboxes, not social media profiles.

Snailmail does not provide followers, likes, public feeds, or public posts as part of the mailbox experience.

4. Delivery

Snailmail is intentionally uncertain. Letters may be delayed, may arrive much later than expected, may be delivered incorrectly, or may never arrive at all.

We do not guarantee delivery, delivery timing, delivery confirmation, read receipts, open tracking, message retention, or uninterrupted service.

5. No Urgent Messages

Do not use Snailmail for emergencies, deadlines, legal notices, medical matters, financial matters, safety-related messages, or anything that needs reliable delivery.

If a message absolutely, positively must arrive, Snailmail is not the right tool for that message.

6. Letters and Content

You keep ownership of the letters and content you send. By using Snailmail, you allow us to store, process, route, display, and deliver that content as needed to operate the service.

You are responsible for the letters you send and for making sure you have the right to send them.

7. Be Decent

You may not use Snailmail to:

• Break the law;
• Harass, threaten, abuse, or impersonate others;
• Send spam, scams, phishing, malware, or deceptive content;
• Violate someone else's privacy;
• Send unlawful, hateful, exploitative, or non-consensual content;
• Interfere with, scrape, overload, or attack the service;
• Try to bypass delays, limits, moderation, or security controls.

8. External Email

Snailmail may send letters, replies, notifications, and sign-in messages by email. External email delivery depends on third-party mail systems, spam filters, and recipient providers, so we cannot guarantee that an email will arrive.

9. Moderation

We may remove letters, restrict access, or suspend accounts if we believe it is necessary to protect users, comply with law, prevent abuse, or keep the mailroom from catching fire.

10. Snailmail's Stuff

The Snailmail name, design, interface, software, and related materials belong to Snailmail or its licensors. These Terms do not give you the right to copy or misuse Snailmail branding.

11. Service Changes

Snailmail is early software. Features, delivery behavior, limits, and availability may change over time.

12. Termination

You may stop using Snailmail at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if we believe these Terms have been violated or if necessary to protect the service or other people.

13. Disclaimers

Snailmail is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no promises that the service will be reliable, available, secure, uninterrupted, error-free, or that letters will arrive, arrive on time, or remain available indefinitely.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Snailmail and its operators are not liable for damages arising from or related to your use of the service, including delayed delivery, failed delivery, lost letters, unavailable service, missed communications, or loss of data.

15. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold harmless Snailmail and its operators from claims, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the service, your content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of another person's rights.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the applicable laws of the state where the operator of this Snailmail instance is located.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we do, we will update the effective date above. Continuing to use Snailmail after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
