Snailmail is a slow little letter service. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what happens to your letters while they are wandering through the mailroom.

1. Information You Give Us

We collect information you provide directly, such as your email address, public Snailmail address, display name, letters, drafts, subjects, replies, and messages sent through public mailbox pages.

2. Account Information

Your email address is used to create your account, sign you in, send sign-in links, send notifications, and help you access your mailbox.

Your Snailmail address and display name may be shown on your public mailbox page and on letters you send through Snailmail.

3. Letter Information

To make delayed delivery work, we store letter contents and delivery details such as sender, recipient, subject, send time, assigned arrival time, delivery status, reply tokens, and delivery errors.

Letters are private by default in the product interface. Snailmail does not provide read receipts, open tracking, online status, or confirmation that a recipient read a letter.

4. Public Mailbox Pages

Public mailbox pages may show a user's display name and Snailmail address. They do not show followers, likes, public posts, or private letters.

Visitors may send letters through public mailbox pages without creating an account. If they do, we collect the email address and letter content they provide so the letter can be delivered and replied to.

5. External Email

Snailmail may send letters, replies, notifications, and sign-in messages by email. If you send a letter to someone outside Snailmail, their email provider may process and store that message according to its own rules.

6. Technical Information

We may collect basic technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, request times, referring pages, and logs. This helps us keep the mailroom working, prevent abuse, fix bugs, and secure the service.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies to keep you signed in. We may use local storage to remember small preferences, such as appearance settings.

8. How We Use Information

We use information to:

Create and manage accounts;
Sign users in;
Operate public mailbox pages;
Store, delay, route, and deliver letters;
Send notifications, replies, and external emails;
Process reply links and conversation tokens;
Prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and unauthorized access;
Maintain, debug, secure, and improve Snailmail;
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

9. Service Providers

We may use third-party providers for hosting, databases, authentication, security, analytics, and email delivery. These providers may process information only as needed to help operate Snailmail.

10. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers, email systems, legal authorities when required, or when necessary to protect Snailmail, its users, or other people.

11. Data Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to run Snailmail, deliver letters, maintain accounts, prevent abuse, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and keep the mailroom from losing its tiny clipboard.

Because Snailmail is early software, deletion and export tools may be limited at first.

12. Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Please do not use Snailmail for highly sensitive or urgent information.

13. Your Choices

You may stop using Snailmail at any time. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information.

14. Children

Snailmail is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us.

15. International Users

Your information may be processed in the United States or other places where we or our service providers operate. Those places may have data protection laws different from where you live.

16. Third-Party Links

Snailmail may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

17. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will update the effective date above.
